Get Organized!

Yesterday a speaker in our Integrated Business Applications course said he tells his children their room is a reflection of who they are. An organized bedroom is a strong indicator of how organized a person is in other aspects of their life.
Note: NOT ALL professions require organization. MOST management positions DO!
This got me thinking about my messy walk-in-closet.
Step 1 to personal development: Get organized!
My plan:
1. Come up with an organization system for the closet.
2. Plan and practice to maintain the organization of the closet.

There are thousands of sites that suggest HOW to get organized. What's important is that you make staying organized an automatic habit. I like FlyLady whose suggestions for organization are habit forming. Warning FlyLady's site may be an estrogen overload for males reading this blog.  Others might also like this site: zenhabits-27-great-tips-to-keep-your-life-organized

Would you play Russian Roulette one time with one bullet for $100,000,000?

  1. Absolutely not! I have a wonderful life that I am grateful for everyday. No amount of money can buy my amazing family and friends, so even if I were to survive, the money wouldn't make my life that much better. There's only so much money can buy, and I don't feel it's worth risking everything.

  2. I can't think of a position in which organization isn't important. Personally, cluttered or unorganized spaced prevent me from being productive.

I wouldn't play Russian roulette for any sum of money. Too scary for me, even though the odds seem pretty good. Keep up the good posts.

  3. No chance. Risking my life is not worth that or any other amount of money.

  4. As I consider everyone's quick response to the value of life, I'm thinking of how many people there are in the world who would jump at this opportunity. Think of homeless people on the streets who might respond, "Hell, I'd do it with 3 bullets in the gun!"

I'm reminded of a great quote: "It's not happy people who are thankful. It's thankful people who are happy"

  5. My initial response was like everyone else - NO WAY! But then the overthinker in me came out. Who gets the money if I am not lucky and get the one bullet? My family? If someone in my family was seriously ill and there was no other way to pay for their medical treatment, it would be worth the risk. Even if I had a terminal illness and my family would get the money, it might be worth the risk.

Or even the situation you mention above. As Bob Dylan sang in Like a Rolling Stone "When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose."

    1. Karen, good additional perspective! Life is full of risks, rewards, and consequences. As professionals, we may be required to make decisions that have huge potential payoff or dire potential consequences.

  6. Life is precious and given to me by my God. Therefore, I would choose not to risk taking it away deliberately. I'm sure there are some who are in desperate situations that would gladly risk much for money. I am, however, incredibly blessed with a loving family and peace that passses all understanding. No money can buy that!

  9. Managers sometimes will walk job applicants to their car after an interview. They say that the car-whether it's been washed, whether the inside is clean or filled with trash, etc., tells a lot about a person. Interesting huh?

    1. Maybe if you were applying at Starbucks they would walk you to your car to determine how long they needed to spend training you to replace old messy habits with new more organized ones.
